Would have posted on Wednesday but fell on the ice again (second time only) and got injured, again.  First time a mini concussion, and this time apparently I nearly destroyed my right arm when all my weight plummeted down onto my elbow.  I don't know what state it was really in, but the first day I couldn't bear to move it at all...I could barely ( Read more... )

Oy! Watch that, please. You really don't want to mess things up in there. I know very little about elbows, but after my rotator cuff surgery last year I know FAR too much about shoulders, and you don't want to break things in there. Fixing them is a pain.

I agree totally about the x-ray vision. Eww.

I'm put out because my arm got a little better on Thursday and notably better on Friday so I thought that trend would continue...but today there was no improvement. >( Maybe if I bind my arm I'll be able to rotate my wrist a little more? I don't even know what's wrong. I know I basically landed on the bone, but why does it feel like the muscle running the length of my forearm separated? (Just what it feels like. I don't see how the muscle could actually be damaged at all. All I did was hit my elbow.)

Oh well. It got enough better that I can type and I can use my right hand to feed myself again, though it's sore to do it.

Yes, I've heard rotator cuffs are a serious complication when they go off. They've got whole books on just that body part. (Common sports injury, I think, that takes some doing to correct.)

Well, that's annoying. Don't overdo it, but don't entirely stop moving anything lest it freeze up on you. That's even less fun.

Shoulders take a LOT of doing. It was surgery followed by immobilization. Then a couple of months of physical therapy, and a year of recovery and limited use. The PT at one point said to me "It takes time - this isn't something simple like a knee."

Shoulders are complicated. But hopefully I won't ever have to do that again - although I'm still working on strengthening it, and likely will be for a while yet - I only came off the weight restrictions in August.

Hopefully the elbow will calm down soon.

Everyone keeps telling me to STOP moving it so much. I kept it VERY still on Wednesday because it was nearly unbearable to even move my fingers, let alone my wrist or elbow...and I stayed pretty still on Thursday, too...but when it got a nice little leap better for Friday, I started using it again (though shampooing my hair as usual is apparently still beyond me, as is lifting anything more than a glass of water.) I don't think it's right to stop using it though. Stillness isn't good for the body unless something is broken and can't heal unless it's immobilized. I'm not good at restricting myself that way anyway. :)

Were you playing too much football again or something? :) Well I'm glad you're most of the way through recovery. Does it make it hard to use even your hand or is that much okay?
