Based on conversation over dinner, I present to you a poll.

I was the only one of the seven of us who said car-a-mel.

Me: *superior look* ...and?
Ellen: I think what she means is, "*hair toss* I may be outnumbered, but I'm clearly correct."

My parents have very faded, very Catholic-grade-school-influenced Philly and Jersey shore accents, which is why I don't really have an accent.

Yes, actually, you do. You just don't have an interesting, unique, or specific regional accent. Every person who uses oral communication has an accent.
