How long does it take for eggs to go bad?

I'm supposed to be making a golden butter cake for our company picnic tomorrow and just realized I forgot to buy eggs. There is a carton of them in the fridge but I'm wondering just how good they are as I know I bought them awhile ago. To try or not to try? (I really don't want to have to run to the ( Read more... )

1. Fill up a bowl with water, enough so it's a bit higher then the height of the eggs.
2. Place the eggs in the bowl of water.
3. If they float, they're bad. If they don't, they're good.

Also, if they stick inside the carton, they are bad (like you can't get them out without possibly crushing them).

Uhhh... my mother says once they're in the fridge they don't go bad. :)

She's been wrong before.

Bad eggs aren't too super sneaky -just crack one open and you'll smell their age.

Don't American eggs cartons come with 'best before' dates stamped on them?

Normally (the ones in my fridge right now have a date), but I have seen a few from smaller grocery stores and the like that didn't have a date. Well, one I could see, at least.
