Much better to take a walk for a while and get his feelings out than to feel like he has to crush all his feelings down to stew quietly in shotgun because Sam is terrified to leave his brother's side or have Dean leave him, or because he doesn't feel like he deserves to get mad in his own defense, which are both things we've seen when Sam is in a bad way. :D Er, maybe I'm articulating this badly, but it would also mean he has enough confidence in their relationship to vent his feelings by storming off in a huff without totally imperiling their relationship. Aww!
