"Push the Button" is a staple on XM these days. It's grown on me; I hated it at first.
I think you should pursue the friendship. The weirdness will dissipate eventually, and who knows, you might even be able to be friends with the ex one day, too, and not just with his sister.
Even when I did go to church, it was a Baptist church, and Baptists don't do Lent. So I never feel the need to deprive myself. Except for that one time in high school when I did it just to prove that I could but then cracked three days before Easter because it snowed and was icy and I hit a car and I needed comfort.
