Hrm. Now I am pondering the species I have seen my dogs buttsniff, and the occasions on which they do it.

Part of this conversation was born out of previous conversation last week, watching Cyke and Lyric meeting my new cat, Cairo. If the dog is butt sniffing, he's not attacking. They can still switch into prey/attack mode, but the butt sniff means they're contemplating the options for a non-prey relationship.
