There are several things about Lyme disease (actually first dscribed based on a case in Lyme, CT, no less) that are good to know about ticks. The Northeast has several species of tick present, but only one, the deer tick, is a Lyme carrier. Ticks crawling on you are not a problem. Actually, the chance of getting Lyme from a tick that has been imbedded less than 24 hours is pretty slim as well. And if there is a tick that's engorged and been living on you for a few days, a high dose of an antibiotic, usually doxycycline 400 mg, once should take care of it.
So don't worry, and make sure you do your tick checks on a regular basis. :)
