Well, it IS classic wrapping up of a character arc. Any genre-saavy character knows they have to sabotage themselves quickly if looks like they're starting to get everything they ever wanted. A character who actually gets everything they want before the end of the series is DOOMED! It's a law even stronger than gravity in the fictional world.

Oh yeah totally. That's why I'm kind of bummed, it just feels like it's pointing to Sawyer because of the rules of fiction.
