Intro: Our Intrepid Hero(?) Ventures Into Civilization

He'd spent an hour trying to shift into his darker half's body with only a migraine to show for it. The three hours after that were spent arguing with the Marauder about why he wasn't going to dismiss his spells and fly using his own wings. At least no one had been around to see the blonde half-god yelling at himself as he walked, smacking the end ( Read more... )

The man with the answers is sitting outside today, repairing guns. Ori had found a bunch... somewhere and they needed to be fixed up before they could actually be used safely. It also allowed him to keep an eye on the people walking around.

The guns are the first thing that really attracts his attention and he slows down to eye them. Guns... guns mean that they must have tech at least a little more sophisticated than his homeworld. One question partially answered. After a moment more, he moves in closer and speaks up. "Sir, I seem to have gotten... lost. I was wondering if you might tell me where it is I am?"

Theo eyes him for a second, taking a quick measure. He frowns briefly, sensing the hitch-hiker in Grint's head before saying, "I can. Though I doubt either of you will like the answers."

"Either of..." Grint trails off.
The Marauder stirs from its irritated sulk, peering as much as it can. Here I thought the only ones that knew were your family, it mutters in mild amusement.
He shakes his head a little. "With all due respect, I like being in an unknown land less. I... we can handle the answers, whatever they are."

Inevitably, a somewhat suppressed (In powers, if not attitude) part-fire-god-part-angel---person, has found his way to the city centre. This could be good or bad, depending on the moods and preferences of whomever is frequenting the place today.

If it helps, he's not in the mood for a squabble.

Phoenix has bumped into a couple of people, and now at least has some clue about the gods of this world. The more he hears, the more he wants to find out about this Theo guy. He's been directed to The Silver Eye, and is on his way, when he stops to watch the bloke who’s thwacking the ground and arguing with himself. There’s a brief sense of something other about the being, which is kind of a relief. It means he hasn’t lost every trace of his mind skills.

Or his memory.

“Don’t I know you?”

He's in the middle of a word, sharp and gutteral and not in any version of English when the question's asked. Grint stops, turning to look at the other man and sniffing out of habit. He recognizes the sharp odor of the divine; it's always smelled like ozone and O-negative to him. He narrows his pale blue eyes a little, tilting his head to the right.

There's a little niggling twinge in the back of his brain, from the Beast's cage. Don't make me tell you, breed.

"Yes, I believe you might." He cautiously closes the gap between them. "Grint Halla-Barra. We spoke once or twice, if you are who I think you are?"

Thanks the gods it isn't another alternate. The last one's still bothering him some, and the separation from that is welcome. Phoenix no longer wears the talisman he took everywhere as a younger immortal. He's changed enough not to be troubled by darker beings. Unless the presence of evil is so vastly malevolent and uncompromising that it tightens his spine.

"Phoenix Kaelen." He's grinning, pleased to see the guy, and trying to recall whichever parent Ash used to call which name. "Bloody long time ago, for me, but I remember you, and the name... Ash's dad?"

As far as Grint knows, the only alternates of him are dead or going to be dead, so there's not so much to worry about in that department, no. And luckily the Marauder isn't that malevolent. Insane and murderous, yes, but it doesn't torture kittens and things.

He nods. "Exactly. Right pronoun and everything." He grins in return; even some of his own relatives get it wrong. "I'm guessing it hasn't been so long since I saw you... or a you, rather."
