His book is ultra cheap on Amazon and yet, I can't bring myself to buy it because I really don't want to know more about him so I don't mess up my good impressions?
I haven't read OBA yet, but the general consensus toward is very positive, except perhaps he is gracious to a fault in recounting the actions of ranking officers. (apparently he doesn't like to bad-mouth anyone :P)
I know what you mean, though :) As much as I respect the hell out of them I try to avoid -too- much RL information on these guys!
See, everything I heard about OBA was all about how readable and interesting it is, but I'm still scared. :( Like, this could totally be the fault of Stark Sands' pretty, pretty face, but mini-series!Nate just seems so young and resolute and human. And just, the way he becomes disillusioned but never completely so.
What if the book takes this away from me??? (Although, the part about the officers just make him sound more great and wonderfully Nate-like. :))
I don't know, it's weird. I have this irrational fear that knowing too much about the real people will somehow make all their "inner drama" if you will that we see and are, in essence, entertained too concrete. And then I can't have porny thoughts about all the I'm-sorry-this-war-is-making-me-lose-faith-in-the-mission sex that must be going on. And that would be tragic. :'(

Haha, I'm with you on this. It's better to leave some gaps left unfilled because yeah, too much RL overlap is squicky. Perhaps this is why I gravitate toward AUs so much!
Speaking of AUs, OMG WHERE IS MORE OF ICE CREAM ASSASSIN BRAD, NATE AND RAY?? Because the world is not complete until this reaches its natural conclusion, i.e. hot melting ice cream porn! :D
Ooh! I freely admit to preferring Alex in Gen Kill over True Blood, but then I have a thing for ultra-conpetent, emotional unexpressive men.
Although, I have the warn you that the first couple episodes are really confusing in terms of the action until you get the lingo down a bit. I'm getting the blu-ray because I'm convinced that this is one of those shows that really benefit from repeat watchings because there's just so much I feel like I missed the first time around.
And it's also suppose to be very realistic (as advertised by the marines who were there!), but it doesn't have the constant rush feel of a action war-movie. I can't explain, but I'm crazy in love. ♥
