For me it is less about legitimizing it than protecting my right to do it. As corporations become ever more powerful, I could easily see the day where a person's access to being online is shut down due to perceived "copyright infringement", and that idea terrifies me

I'm not convinced that putting everything fandom in one place is a good idea. The larger fan organizations become, the bigger the explosion. And we've already had various groups trying to monetize and control online fanfic.
I am not necessarily anti-OTW, but it's on them to show what they can do. I am not obligated to leap into every new fannish endeavor that comes along.
Also, thanks for reminding me why I haven't listened to the radio in 15 years...
