I like fake trees, they are clean, cheaper, and I ain't killing a defenseless tree. Usually when I had a real tree, I ended up cleaning up needles for the next three months in the house. There are tree farms where you can buy potted ones that you can plant in your yard the next year also.
A real tree, even a cut one propped up in a bucket of water, will consume CO2 and replace it with oxygen in your house, even if only for a short period. An artifical tree only collects dust.
My family's always gotten a real tree and will continue to do so. But now I want a tree for myself and don't know what way to lean...
I kind of want to go the traditional route since that's all I've ever had and I love the smell and feel. But fake trees are cheaper and will be around the next couple years.
Of course if your cat's going to eat whatever you bring home, for it's health you might want to consider going the real tree route... Plastic's not exactly good for cats.
Anyway, I used to have to use a fake one because I'm allergic to all things pine. But I think that may have gone away and I'm going to try a real one this year. I've never, ever had a real one.
