"We lost the fucking snake." Colonel Cameron Mitchell winced. "Sorry, sir."
Jack O'Neill sat back in his chair in the Home World Security video conference room, and shook his head. "Not really surprised, what happened?"
"Not sure, but by the time we got to the body, it was gone," Cam shifted in place in front of the camera.
"You're sure there was one?" Jack asked.
"Yes, sir. All the naquahda markers are there," Cam explained. "The levels are pretty high, so it was relatively recent."
"Snake sacrificed the host to move to a new body," Jack decided.
"That's what the geeks think," he said.
"Damn. Could be anywhere now," Jack sighed.
"Sorry, thought we had it contained," he shrugged.
"No, not your fault," Jack assured him. "We didn't get close enough soon enough. Damn IOA wouldn't let us do anything until it was too late." SG-1 knew Jack's opinion on that one.
"What do you want us to do with the body?" Cam asked. "I don't think we want to return it the Libyans."
"No," Jack agreed. "Bring it back. I'll get the IOA to handle the spin. It'll probably be 'buried at sea' or 'in the desert' like we did with Bin Laden."
"Yes, sir," Cam replied.
"Anything else?" Jack asked.
"Not on this end," Cam said.
"Okay, pack up and come home," Jack said. "Thanks for doing what you could."
"You're welcome," he said with a nod.
Jack looked at the other man on the monitor. "So. Daniel. Any ideas?"
"Sorry, Jack," Daniel shook his head. "We need to get people here and no telling where the Goa'uld went at this point. It could be anywhere. 'Recent' is relative, it could be any time in the last month. The Tok'ra might have been able to tell better but, well….." He shook himself slightly. "If the Goa'uld left as much as a month ago, even two weeks ago, it could be anywhere."
Jack rubbed his forehead wearily. "Fucking IOA. If we could have gotten in when this revolution first started, we'd have had a better chance at containing it."
"And we could have saved a lot of lives," Daniel pointed out gently.
"Yeah, let's lay that one at the feet of the IOA," Jack growled. He sighed. "When you coming back?"
Cam shrugged. "We need to clean up here. Teal'c and Vala have some weak leads they want to follow up on but I suspect we need to just watch and see what happens."
"Well, I'm pretty sure he can't leave Earth," Jack stated. "Watching is about the only thing we can do. Maybe Carter can get the geeks to tune the scanners for naquahda at some point," Jack suggested. "Let me know when you're on your way back."
Daniel gave a small grin. "Yes, Jack!"
"Yes, sir," Cam chimed in.
