I'm doing fine. To be honest "skipping meals" is something I can do without even really thinking about it, so that part is not such a big deal. It just pisses me off that this guy is so disconnected from all life outside his own including the lives of people living under the same roof as him. One day he asked me why I liked Beau, and as I listed things that Beau does and that Beau and I have talked about all of it was news to him. There he was, full of hate for someone he never even had a five minute conversation with. And obviously even if you do tell him something he doesn't really hear it. You know? The two of us are living in very different economic realities right now, and yet fifteen minutes after he's heard me say I'm living off five bucks until Monday he'll ask, "Could you buy some paint for the spare room, we need to get that done soon ( ... )

Housing woes are the worst. Good luck with all that.

I was in Berlin two weeks ago and I miss it already. Too bad
we didn't get to meet up. I was staying in Moabit with this guy
Christian, and just wandered the city otherwise. When will you
be in SF? Maybe doings then.

Oh dang! I missed you. Moabit! Wow. That's where I stayed on my first visit to Berlin in 1987 (back when there was still a wall).

I come to SF late in August and then I am there the rest of the year. I'm thinking about maybe doing a weekly free film night there if I can find a venue--even a large living room. It would be a sort of nod to my favorite space here in Berlin which hosts free events where a crowd of creative types can gather and be social. I thought doing something that didn't have a cover might be radical in present day San Francisco, but tell me if I'm wrong. Is there much in the way of cost-free entertainment there?

I would show stuff that continues the theme of the class I'm teaching, which is on failure. That way some of my students might partake as well. Do you know a good place to do this? I probably won't have too hard a time finding something, but it's good to get the word out.
