You're right. The main problem is I treat each drawing like IT IS the one that's going up on the gallery wall. I'm not letting myself just do a sketch ... or even a mistake. That is, I do sketch, but not with the freedom of someone who is drawing for the pleasure of drawing. I put too much pressure on myself to "get it right."
perfectionism is a curse. i need to find a way to shake off this drive which is only crippling my ability to have fun with the project.

"advance crap work"

maybe that's the ticket. thanks. i'll give it a shot. i do have the time to be able to make some crap before the finished stuff goes up. and to be honest, it's usually other people's crap (the early sketches or, as pictured in this post, the preliminary photos) that i end up liking much more than the intended finished work.

The Polaroids are going to be (or perhaps by now have been) released in book form. The very last photos in this post are of an old friend from New York. Attila, who took the photos to use as studies for his paintings, used to have a studio directly across the street from a bar called The Lure in Manhattan. The neighborhood that bar was in was called the Meatpacking District. There was in fact slaughter houses around there where they would deliver whole animal carcasses to be butchered and then delivered in parts to various markets. At night though the area was more known for the leather bars, sex clubs, and tranny hookers. When the galleries moved from Soho to "West Chelsea" the fancy boutiques followed like flies after the shit. Now the Meatpacking District has some new designer name and has managed to out-Soho Soho.

By the way. I downloaded your music, but for some reason haven't been able to open it yet. I'll let you know if progress is made on that front.

I know it sounds like generic advice, but keep at it.

And try not to be too self-critical. Just self-critical enough.

Generic advice is often that, "generic", because it is good advice. I will try. It's hard sometimes to release the grip of self-critique but in my case I need to at least stop applying it until the work is done. My main problem is I start hating the drawings before they're even complete.

Thank you, Thor. I'll keep those words in mind.
