In this week's The Brookline Parent column, I recap our visit on Sunday to the inaugural Brookline Day celebration. Find out about Muffin's quest for a balloon and what happens when you find the golden egg. Click to read A Brookline Day Adventure.

I'm just curious - when do you do errands? We rarely get to do anything fun on a Sunday b/c it's the only day I have to run errands (though H. does enjoy coming with me on the errand runs), catch up on stuff around the house, etc... and the past few weeks I've been spending Sundays in the kitchen cooking for yontif. I feel like I must be missing some vital time-management skill.

mabfan and I tend to do a lot of our errands on our way home from work. One of us always makes sure to be home in time to relieve the babysitter, and the other one runs the errands that are needed. Larger errands are often done at night, after the kids have had dinner (and possibly after they've gone to bed). Laundry is often a nighttime chore, as is cooking for Shabbat. Since I work downtown, there are some errands I can do during my lunch break (my office is about a 10-minute walk from Downtown Crossing, so I can do Radio Shack, kids' clothing shopping, and that kind of thing in the middle of the day). There are some errands that end up happening on Sunday, but they're not the norm.

I sometimes do errands on the way home, but I don't usually want to delay getting home any further. What's your timing usually like? I leave around 7:30 or 8:30 a.m., depending whether it's a preschool day, and get home around 7:00 p.m. So we usually have dinner around 7:30, and then I want to spend some time with H. until he goes to bed around 9:30. At which point I'll try getting a few things done around the house, but my stamina isn't what it used to be - I can't stay up much past midnight these days. And I don't get a lunch break as such, I eat at my desk between projects. So aside from midweek post-dinner supermarket trips, my best opportunity to do errands is usually Sunday.
