HP Art: Snitch & Runespoor

May 26, 2007 23:57

I found a new toy and did a couple little drawings. Teddy is a really neat applet which builds 3D models from sketches. The results are very plump and squashy and homespun. It is buggy, but it's engaging enough that I could overlook that. Plus, there are ridiculous sound effects! And anybody who's heard me rave about Artrage knows what a ( Read more... )

Thanks! I couldn't stop playing with it; I drew all afternoon and part of the morning.

That snitch is ridiculously cute. I love the engraving-looking shading! Is that you-applied, or Teddy (fantastic name for an application) generated?
Runespoor! Recent events-inspired? :D
You do bring the funky shit. ♥

Thanks, darlin. I know, isn't the shading awesome! It's not me; it's Teddy-generated. It makes everything look like a woodcut. The newer version has bells and whistles, but just the standard CG smooth plasticy shading, which is a loss, in my view. I think the name comes from the fact that it produces stuffed animals. AWWW.

Gah. The reptiles, I have them on the brain.

Oh! In other critter news, I made friends with the tiniest frog ever this afternoon. Well, I shouldn't say it that way. From my POV we made friends, but from his POV, it was more like OMG HUGE MONSTER TRYING TO EAT ME. He was the size of my pinkie nail, and his toes actually fit inside the grooves of my fingerprints. AWWW.

I remember seeing something about Teddy years ago; I didn't realize it was still around. You've put it to good use here, anyway, especially in the snitch. I don't usually think of wings as things that should be round and squishy but they work well. And that little vicious face on the middle runespoor head!

Thank you very much! Yeah, apparently it was later used for the engine in a couple of video games. Draw creatures and let them fight? Or something? I don't know. I can't believe I never heard of it until now; it's so pretty!
