One of the ways I believe the Hebrews were blinded to Messiah's first coming was through the perversion of their Aleph-bet. The early pictographic Proto-Sinaitic is far more telling than the script used today, and I frequently refer to it to get a better understanding of certain words or concepts in the OT.
