Since upgrading to a new computer at work (now with less crashing! 4th time's the charm -- thanks, Vista64), I've had to revert to a plain 101-key keyboard. Sadly my old Kinesis is PS2 only ( Read more... )

Try this as an experiment: type the first few verses of a modern translation of Beowulf, and see how much the resulting text resembles the original...

The first lines of Seamus Heaney's translation:

"So. The Spear-Danes in days gone by and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness. We have heard of these princes' heroic campaigns."

become:

"No. Hde Npeac-Iaten it iayn fote xy ati hde kitfn mdo curei hdeb dai goucafe ati fceahtenn. Me dawe deaci ot hdene pcitgen' decoig gabpaiftn."

I'd say it's still far too readable to be Old English.

Thanks for the translation! That's dedication, it's hard to type a long sentence without shifting your hands back to the right keys. :) I like "Me dawe deaci ot hdene". That really ought to mean something.
