Eva has finally turned eighteen years old. We should be married now. That's how the plan was supposed to go. But I've learned long ago that life never really goes according to plan.

Went to visit her yesterday. Well, not really me, per se. Just a projection. Spent a few hours with her and Aikka. It was a much quieter affair, not at all like the wild ( Read more... )

Do you regret any of the changes you made?

I don't know. One, I think. But part of me feels ashamed to regret that decision.

... I'm being selfish, aren't I?

Depends on what that decision is.

The decision to become Avatar ...

Come to think of it... it's probably almost a year since I joined this place as well. Well, you know, give or take a couple of months, I'm never really sure about that...

Everyone changes, Jordan, it's part of life. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about here. And if you don't mind me saying, you've gone through so many changes I'd be worried if you hadn't - changed yourself!

So... you got to see Eva then? That's good! Did Aikka remember to wish her happy birthday from me?

Being a time-traveler, linear time means little to you, doesn't it? I'd probably forget what time period I'm supposed to be in if I were hopping back and forth through time and space as much as you do.

It's one thing to mature, to grow into an older and wiser person, and another to change into someone else. Sometimes, I look in the mirror and I don't even recognize myself anymore.

Yeah, I saw her. And Aikka did remember. Wish Rick and the mechanics could have been here this time.

I wouldn't say it means little to me, but yeah, I do tend to land 100 years out sometimes. Like that time I was aiming for 1979 and wound up in 1879... met Queen Victoria though, that was... something.

Yeah, preaching to the converted here, really. Did I ever tell you about my people and regeneration, or was that someone else...? Point is, you're probably more alike to who you were than you think.

Well, that's something to be thankful for, at least. Rick?

Well, I meant that it's not such a constraining force in your life. You've mastered it. Ordinary people are almost slaves to the all-mighty clock, always scurrying around, trying not to be late, trying to save time but always losing it.

Regeneration ...? Isn't that the ability to recover quickly from injury? Or does that mean something else to your kind?

Tell your bride-to-be I wish her a happy birthday.

As I'm sure you know, not all plans can be carried through according to our expectations, no matter how much time and effort we spend into the preparations. All you can now is be patient. "Good things come to those who wait," is the saying, I believe.

I will, Gaara.

"The best laid plans of mice and men," is another good saying, too. Believe me, if you'd known me three years ago, I wouldn't be able to just sit around like this, waiting for the right moment. Guess that's another thing that's changed.

Then you have changed for the better. That is a good thing.

I'm sure you two will be married someday. There's no need to rush.

Is it really? Being patient, I mean? Sometimes the worst sort of action is inaction.

Yeah, I know but ... I've been waiting so long for this day. I'm tired of always having to wait for the things I want.

Is it really? I wonder if any of my old friends and family would even recognize me now ...

Wow, it's been almost a year for me too!
People can change over time, but they don't always change entirely. And I know...I know how things can change when you become an Avatar. Guess that's something else we have in common. But I don't think you lose who you are under all that responsibility - it helps to strengthen you, you know? Either way I think you're a great person, and I'm glad to have you as a friend. We all are.

Now that you mention it ... you joined the comm not long after I did. There sure was a lot of confusion with two Avatars running around, huh? ;)

Kinda strange that we have so much in common. Two Avatars from two completely different worlds. It's a bit eerie, but comforting at the same time.

Thank you, Aang. It's ... really nice to actually hear someone say "I'm glad to have you near me" even if you already know it.

Heh heh, you said it! Good times. :D We ought to celebrate or something.

Yeah...you know, I really do wonder if there's some sort of connection between us. And not just here, on the community. Maybe that's just the eeriness talking.

Anytime, Jordan. I always mean it!

We should! Get all of our friends together and have a party. I'm sure Toph would like to catch up with her "big sister" real soon.

You never know. The universe is a strange and wonderful place. I won't exactly say it was destiny that we met one another, but I definitely feel like there's a reason behind all of this. People don't usually meet by coincidence.

Same here, little bro. Here's hoping we can all catch up at the wedding.
