I feel very self-indulgent doing the Daily December Meme (
prompts list). I am having a really nice time ruminating on these questions, but definitely feel free to scroll on past these entries to other, more fandom-related things!
Dec. 16: Places I love for
aerynsun5 There are obviously pros and cons about every place, and I get into funks sometimes where I hate everything and need to just chill with a good book, even when traveling (especially when traveling?). I love lots of cities in the US, but some of the places that have really struck me as amazing and interesting and places I could live are:
Toulouse, France: I studied abroad for about ten months in Toulouse, and it was a very formative experience. The city is so adorable and manageable, with red brick buildings and windy streets. I made really great friends and just generally went out a lot and was super broke. Living abroad for me has always meant really polar moods and experiences. Miserable is more miserable because of added homesickness, and happy is more ridiculous and adventurous feeling because everything is untried and in a different, only somewhat comprehensible language. I made a lot of friends I still keep in touch with and the city itself was very walkable and has a cute metro. There are cute shops everywhere and a really beautiful river, featured above.
Hanoi, Vietnam: I was in Hanoi for four days maybe, and in that time I met up with my friend's online friend who was a gay Canadian guy in his mid-twenties and we went to this vegetarian festival thing the first night I was there. Nothing can ensure that I like a city more than gay people and good food. This was the end of a three week long trip in Vietnam, so by then I had acclimated and could say a few things and get around well. I was in a dire situation at the beginning of the trip which included being lost with, thankfully, my wallet, and then there was some craziness in the middle of the country, so by the time we got to Hanoi everything seemed very doable I was staying in this $2 a night hostel and made friends with a few people. It was very warm summer nights + good food + really beautiful city.
Other places that make this list: Colorado, which I've mentioned I visited earlier this year and was just plain one of the best trips ever; Mykonos island in Greece, which was pretty much the most adorable thing ever, with cafes that were actually on the water, waves washing up onto the flagstones by your feet, and giant scary pelicans roosting in empty village squares; and Tucson, which is lovely and dry hot and a place that's just really nice to be.
I would really like to go back to England. I have darling people who I can visit and also England is just really great. I've been to a handful of cities and of course London is so great. So yes, that is where I'm hoping to go in Spring next year! I'm totally scrounging moneywise right now but I'm going to just choose to believe it's artistic and will probably romanticize it later. And my family's taking a trip to France next summer, too, because one of my good friends stayed with me all summer and she has an old family house in the mountains that is freakishly similar to Grimmauld Place, and because I didn't charge her rent, her parents are going to fly me there? IDEK guys, I feel like a mooch, but also, ticket to France!
Dec. 15: Pets for
berteeI don't personally have any pets, but my parents have three cats. I love cats! Cat person all the way. Two of them are two years old and squashy, and that oldest one is maybe-13 and very yowly. They spend their days lying around by the fire, hiding in bags, and generally doing all the things I want to do and none of the things I don't. They are great.
Here are the two little ones:
