I've organized these scans into roughly thematic groups. First, there is Bart's ever-changing height
A Pictorial History of Bart's Height Through the Years
When he first appeared, just before 1994's Zero Hour event, Bart appeared to be in his mid-teens. This did not remain the case for very long at all, but it's fun to see an Impulse who's not teensy-tiny:

(FLASH v.2 #95)

Just after his arrival, he joined the Teen Titans for the *first* time (thus laying the groundwork for lots of Bart/Roy fics that...no one's written yet. Damn it). Here he is getting tortured by Psimon. Observe how he's roughly the same height as Kyle Rayner:

(NTT #117)
I included this scene, too, because what Psimon says - You live with the fear of dying at any moment... - is terrifically eerie in retrospect.

When Bart got his own book with IMPULSE, his height and relative/apparent age shrank. He now looked like a ninth grader, or thereabouts:

(IMP #3)
This look - young teenager, small for his age, with enormous feet and messy hair - continued throughout IMPULSE and YOUNG JUSTICE.

Then, when TEEN TITANS v.3 started up, something *weird* seems to have happened to Bart. All of a sudden, he looks about *ten*:

(TT v3 #1)
His observation about remembering what he reads will come into play in a couple issues. And that's it for his character development in that book. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
But, seriously, in TEEN TITANS, he's shorter than Tim omgwtf?!:

(ibid.)

ANYWAY. Then Infinite Crisis happens, the Flashim rush Superboy Prime away, and -- when Bart returns, he's fully grown.

Next, his heart. Bart loves like a force a nature
Bart Loves His Family
Bart was born a thousand years into the future. He doesn't have *family* in this time, especially once his grandma Iris retreats into hermitage. That doesn't mean, however, that he doesn't love, and love hard.

He gets to see his mother occasionally. These are my two favorite moments:

(IMPULSE #73)

(TT/LEGION x-over) Why does she call him "the Flash"? Hmmm?

He never knew his grampa (Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash, aka THE BEST OLDER CHARACTER EVER), but that doesn't stop Bart from loving him, too. While reading Iris's biography of Barry, Impulse falls asleep and dreams of a team-up:

And, and, in the one-shot IMPULSE: Bart Saves the Universe, Bart travels to an alternate dimension and meets Barry and it's the most beautiful awesome thing in the world. This moment is approximately *an hour* after they've met:

...see why I love them both so hard?

Then, one can't forget that Bart is a time-traveler
Bart's Future Selves
We've seen versions of what Bart might grow up to be several times over the years.

There's Purple Impulse Man in the 31st century:

(IMP #74)

There's aged-up Impulse Man in Sins of Youth:

(SoY)

And the most interesting of all, a grown-up Bart still wearing the Kid Flash suit in Titans of Tomorrow:

(TT v3 #17).
Everyone else has assumed the mentor's mantle. But not Bart. I WANT FIC ABOUT WHY PLS.

Finally (for now!), two pages from Bart Saves the Universe, featuring Bart desperate for something to do and making the rounds of the JLA:

Slight spoilers for F:FMA #13 in the comments.

scans, bartday
