Okay, that was about twelve kinds of awesome. The writing is really good, really consistantly in-period, and definitely convincing for Robin's frame of mind. The gay bar was a very clever way to frame it and bring the right kind of tension into poor little Dick's head. And, of course, Bruce is the judgemental, hypocrite we all know he is, but you can't really hate him for it.
I'm a little confused about the whole Officer Kerr thing- was he both going to the club *and* setting it up? Or am I reading too much into his nastiness, and he was just covering his ass without the intention of arson?
I'm almost tempted to ask you to do more with Francis and the other regulars at the club- they're *interesting*. I'm reminded of Tipping the Velvet.
Kerr was getting payoffs from the bar and when Natasha stopped paying, he & the Maronis (who, in my backstory that didn't make it to the page, *owned* the bar itself) burned it down. But Robin's not the World's Greatest Detective yet, unfortunately.
I fell *hard* for the patrons - it's so good to hear that they worked for you, too. Originally, this was supposed to be a silly little ficlet populated with pulp stereotypes, but they really kind of grew on me, especially Gilbert and Belle.

That is, it broke my heart, too, but I'm sadistic enough to be really happy it worked for you. Thank you!
