"O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

My husband and I watched that movie on DVD last night (we checked it out from our library). I love, love, love the music. We'd better run out and get the soundtrack soon! The only thing I didn't like is that George Clooney's Mississippi accent would keep cutting in and out. (The movie was set in Mississippi in the 1930's.) Actually, this ( Read more... )

Must've been sort of like Kevin Costner's "British" accent cutting in and out during Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Nobody can figure out where my accent is from. It's a combination upstate New York twang, with a touch of South (Virginia specifically), plus California Surfer D00d. *laugh* Nobody believes I come from Massachusetts originally.

Actually, I think it reminded me more of Madonna's newly-acquired British accent. If she had it all the time, I would have no problem with it. But it seems that sometimes, she has it and other times, she doesn't. It definitely cuts in and out, and it annoys me to no end.

I think most people gave up trying to pin down my accent a long time ago! When I lived in the South, I didn't sound like a Southerner, and when I moved to Portland, OR, I didn't sound like I was from the Pacific Northwest either! Most people guessed that I was from the East Coast, even though I've never spent any time there. Go figure!

According to Madonna, she doesn't MEAN to do the British accent thing -- it's just that spending so much time in Britain she has picked it up. Since I have the same tendency I can sort of sympathize, though I agree it's annoying.

Strangely enough a lot of people think I'm from outside the US because of my accent...but nobody knows WHERE. *grin* I have no idea what they think I sound like...but at least it's not a Brit accent!

I loved that movie! I don't even like your typical country music, but I actually went out and got the soundtrack for this movie, and I had the "Constant Sorrow" song stuck in my head for days... almost drove me mad.
