Why don't people care?

I'm trying to start a club on campus to raise awareness of the crisis in Darfur. I spoke with one of my professors who essentially told me good luck, that he'd been trying to get students to care with little success. Why is that? I refuse to believe there would be absolutely no one interested in joining a club and trying to make a difference, and ( Read more... )

Mainly because they are college kids more focused on themselves. Unless they know someone directly affected by the situation in Darfur, they will do nothing about it. You'd have better luck starting an awareness group through the town that you live in. You could put out a message on something like craigslist.com or meetup.com that you want to start a group and go from there.

I know, it's an uphill battle, but its partly for college student's benefit I want to start a club, so they'll understand the world has bigger problems than not being able to find a parking spot and missing their mocha latte from Starbucks before class.

I'm still going to try, but I was also considering starting one in my neighborhood as well. Thanks for your advice, craigslist is an amazing thing. :)
