ZOMFG READ READ READ! http://reyyy.livejournal.com/75754.html

The best bit is suggesting M. Night Shama...rama? should be the Fire Lord. Because he likes to be in his movies. And that might explain why Dev Patel is Zuko.

Haha, at least that rumor isn't true. Someone else is Ozai, iirc.`

But that's the only remotely reasonable reason why Dev Patel would be Zuko.

OH MAN. IF SHAHRUKH KHAN WAS OZAI....

That's pretty painful. But it reminds me..
More and more movies are being made based on things with established fandoms. I mean, not just obvious things like Terminator/Star Trek/etc, they're making a goddamn 'Hot Wheels' movie. I mean, I expect ruxpin to happen any day now. Honestly.

But less and less content of these films is actually about catering to the fanbase they have, which confuses me. Even aside from the jaw-dropping racial issues here, they make massive changes and I don't think they are even misguided enough to expect the fans to like it, so I don't know why they make them. The difficulty in original ideas? The name/brand recognition? Or just that extra little bit of hype a fanbase is willing to give it?
Whatever it is, they clearly don't care what we think. That picture of "Aang" proves it.

They're running out of original stories to tell that center on a white, heterosexual, cissgendered male. Rather than change things up, they're doing remakes and reboots. So the world changes and there're all these other kind of heroes - but Hollywood is all Same Day, Same sh*te.

I don't mean to argue, but I can't really agree. I do think they're doing remakes, reboots, shitty adaptations... and they are seemingly hell-bent on keeping it white male, but I don't think the facts are related. You make it sound like there aren't more original stories to tell unless they change races. There's room for all races, genders, whatever in good storytelling (:

A disclaimer, though, I'm a white male, and I don't have the first idea what 'cissgendered' means.

1. Dev Patel looks kind of hot like that, ngl. I realize I'm weird for thinking that, though.

2. This is getting really annoying, you guys. When will the media stop ignoring us?

And is it too much to ask that there still be obvious colour coding of nations? Fine, whatever, black, but srsly how bout DARK ASH GREY AND REDS for fire nation? Or dominantly red/burgundy? And Aang's outfit doesn't look 'air nomad' to me; where is the fantasy?

AUGH! *sits on hands before she types more and gets herself in trouble*

Hey, it's me again. The teaser to the movie has been posted online. I find it amazing that the kid they cast is as graceful with a staff as "The Fat Star Wars Kid" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-hrsOn8j-w&feature=player_embedded
