AVATAR: MORE CASTING!FAIL
So remember how there were rumours floating around that the nations would be cast according to their lead actors? So in essense:

Air Nomads (heroes, victims of genocide): white people
Water Tribe (heroes, oppressed, canonically dark-skinned): white people
Earth Nation (good/bad, repressed): anything 'exotically Asian'

THAT'S WAY TOO MUCH INUIT, HONEY. NOT ALLOWED ON SET. Unless you look knda ethnically exotic and Asian, then maybe you can play some background Earth Nation character. Or something. ARGH.

And the whole "lets make some tribes -this or that colour-" then just makes it worse. And why don't they listen? Gnhhhhh.

*stares at photo* W- whu-

Well FUCK, I figured they'd at least decided, "fuck this, we've got two of four nations being all ETHNIC, we can probably just go with a Euro-centric Water Tribe and not have to bother with Rathbone and Peltz in brownface!" and go with some kind of icy Scandinavian type setting. Nope? Still going the whole borrowing-from-the-indigenous-people-without-featuring-them business? WELL OKAY THEN -_-

*palms face repeatedly*

I know I know I know!!! I though "okay, if they whitewash the characters, they might just whitewash the culture of the Water Tribe" but no. BLATANT, SHAMELESS APPROPRIATION, because Paramount Pictures just rolls that way. *bangs head*

IT'S JUST. LIKE. I mean, they could've had like, really really really vertically inclined wooden structures bedecked with horsey and vegetation motifs. That would've made sense to me. BECAUSE DUDE, IF WE'RE GOING AHEAD WITH THE WHITEWASHING, COULD WE AT LEAST BE CONSISTENT WITH THE CULTURAL CUES?? EVEN REALLY INACCURATE, STEREOTYPICAL ONES? Cuz I look at that set design and just think, Oh, so they must've finally looked over the source material and realized "hey, these look like some pretty indigenous, live-off-the-land kind of folk. Knock down that mead hall; we've got.. I dunno, some igloos or teepees or some shit to put up."

BECAUSE BELIEVE YOU ME, BY THE TIME THE FIRE NATION ROLLS UP, I FULLY EXPECT THEM WITH ALADDIN PANTS AND BRANDISHING SCIMITARS, AND FOR THEM EARTH KINGDOM FOLKS TO BE DRESSED IN KIMONOS (especially if they're Korean, oh ho ho) AND THROWING CHINESE STARS. THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID "CHINESE STARS".NO REASON, JUST THROWING THEM FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES ( ... )

Know what, fuck it, I'm pretty much done with this movie until the trailer surfaces and we can get to pushing that boycott for real

Srsly, I am so sick and tired of almost EVERYTHING to do with that movie, including it's fucking pre-fans-who-aren't-racist-but-lol-asian-wot? and it's moronic crew and lead actors and GODDAMMIT.

How is it, though, that I can hate the movie SOOO MUCH and yet still have burning love for the cartoon? They really are just THAT separated in my mind.

Fucking fuckers fuckjerks.

Psst Hon I think you mean Greenland. >_<

But yeah, given how Greenland is almost completely ethnically Inuit...for them to film there is almost akin to filming a minstrel show in Africa.
