AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER - LULZ
Man, I haven't done a Google search for 'aang-aint-white' in a long time, and yet it never fails to be full of fail.

I finally found a commenter who thinks racism is over (see comment 10). I feel like I should win a prize or something! I mean, I've joked about that whole "But we elected Obama! We're post-racism!" ( Read more... )

XDD

No wonder you got confused by that. Even I don't understand it now.

It was another post, something about a black tree...

Please ignore me, I've eaten a bucket of Haribo.

I am torn on this subject. As we saw in Episode 3-2, Aang is a spectacular dancer. That is an indication that he is not white.

xD

God these people on the tv.com site are freaking morons. Has anybody posted pics of the elders in the Air Bending Kingdom??? THEY ARE FREAKING ASIAN

I dunno man, cultural ignorance is a powerful thing. I just talked to a classmate yesterday who said he saw the Earth Kingdom as African because it had a desert.

xDD only Africa has deserts, even including non Earth worlds lol.

Oh yeah, never mind the fact that the United States has a nice chunk of the country that is desert in the Southwest. Not to mention the Gobi desert in Asia. *Head/Desk OTP*

Didn't you hear?? If someone doesn't SAY what ethnicity they are, then they're WHITE! Pasty white.

(To be fair, I suppose the body of comments most vocal about it are, "I am the whitest whitey who ever whited and even /I/-" etc. Which would probably leave an impression. But generally, unless everyone commenting on this does so in youtube form, I just assume a cross-spectrum of ethnicities.)

But I just read through the entire xanga post. I still can't figure out WHAT RPG's point is. It's like.. s/he gave us a basic thesis ("People complaining about the Avatar cast = nothing but NERD RAGE") and then spends the rest of the post not supporting that at all by going, "They have a point and the cast should reflect the cultural origins," which.. is it just me, or isn't 'nerd rage' by definition without point, and that people who aren't fans wouldn't care about? And instead throws out the same facetious rhetoric about what we SHOULD be protesting (Shyamalan makes bad decisions and movies, Jesse McCartney LOL) that manage to be ( ... )

If someone doesn't SAY what ethnicity they are, then they're WHITE! Pasty white.Well yeah! Heck, that argument goes both ways - I mean, Aang never actually says "well, my fantasy culture is partly based on Tibetan traditions" so therefore he is actually white. Pasty white. OMG I FOUND A NEW MANTRA. EVERYTHING IS PASTY WHITE, UNLESS CLEARLY STATED OTHERWISE. \o ( ... )

But the real kick in the head, the proof that the Tangencyites themselves are so full of shit on this issue, that they're a gang of pathetic hypocrites, is the fact that they are protesting about this, while they were laughing at and insulting people who were upset at the suggestion a while back that the next Superman movie would cast an Asian as the Man of Steel. And they were practically pissing their pants with joy at the idea of a black man becoming the next Doctor Who.

Oh yes, because casting a black guy as the next incarnation of soemone who CHANGES HIS ENTIRE PHYSICAL STRUCTURE (which, BTW, CANONICALlY can include changes to skin colour - Y HELO THER, Rememberance of the Daleks!) is TOTALLY THE SAME THING as casting a caucasian as an OBVIOUSLY ASIAN character from an OBVIOUSLY ASIAN culture. Thus HI THERE I AM A HYPOCRITE. *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

Not to mention the question of how the hell does he/she/h know these are the same people? Did h keep track? I mean I never even heard about the Asian Superman thing, but I ( ... )

In fact, we sorta DID have an Asian (well, happa) Superman for a while! XD (I mean, most people would've picked up on THAT about about as soon as they would've picked up on Smallville's Lana Lang being of half Asian descent as well, but still.)

[/tangencyitis, apparently]

I had no idea Dean Cain was part Japanese! And it didn't stop him from being an awesome superman at all. Fancy that! XD

I never understood the fooferaw over Lana being half Asian either... I mean, once she wasn't a redhead, they'd already broken with he comics, so who cares?

I'm so very sure that h saw someone mention it in some obscure message board and that was the entirety of h's evidence that ALL PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT AANG AINT WHITE FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY. Or something? It's the internet, LOL. It's such a ridiculous claim made only to make itself feel like The Most Sane Person on Teh Nets, oh maaaaannnnnn.
