Yesterday was fun. As in not in the slightest. One resident has been into hospital with pneumonia, and she came back to us with Norovirus. Oh grand. Care homes and Norovirus don't mix. Well, they do, and that's the trouble. Half the staff were off, including all the other domestics, so I had it all to deal with. A care home full of people who are ( Read more... )

Because I have no other choice. I couldn't have faced Friday I think, whatever the state of my health, especially as I now know that I would have been on my own again. I'm rather anxious as to what Monday will bring, the worst has passed but there are no cleaners on the weekends anyway so I'm fearful as to what awaits from Friday AND the weekend, and we will be at least one person down as the housekeeper will be on holiday and I'm unsure as to whether one of the other domestics will be back or not as she was still unwell when I spoke to her this morning... xxx

I'm furious that the hospital let the lady come home when she had the bug, it's utterly reckless to bring something like that into an environment like ours. And being in a Home would be less daunting if the wider community wasn't so determined to pretend they don't exist; people love to bang on about the quality of care for the elderly, yet can't bring themselves to cross the threshold - we can never get people through the door when we have fetes or other events. I appreciate that people are scared of growing old and ending up in that position, but it needn't be as isolating and frightening as it currently is.

When people can't get themselves out into the community, the community needs to get off its collective backside and take itself to them.

*ends soapbox rant* ; D
