I'm trying to set up a writing-focused blog like that of Cally Taylor (can also be found on Blogger) - I think it will help me track progress, learn new stuff about writing without having to find a writing group IRL which I tend to find are just full of newbies or poets - and if I have writing questions, should provide a wider scope of people who (a) read the same kind of things as I do and (b) will answer comments critically and without making silly jokes.
I recognise that some of my friends on LJ do make critical and serious comments when I post a writing question, but a lot of the time, I dont find LJ much help.
I also like the %-of-novel-written trackers I've seen on Blogger, plus the layouts and the fact it does indeed look professional.
"Probably better than LJ for a work-related blog. LJ, fond as I am of it, does not give off vibes of professionalism. :) Blogger's easy to use, and while it sometimes has issues, it's generally pretty reliable."
Thanks Nico, that was helpful. I've been told about the issues by someone else as well, so it might be worth me writing up each blog entry in Word and transferring it. :)

Really? I know that doesn't work in LJ at all well. I'd experiment with a few test posts first, in case Blogger adds extra HTML and yo end up with double spacing between paras and borked quotes. To stop the latter, it's always good to set smart quotes off in Word because they just don't translate well. I've seen sites that are hard to read in some browsers because the quotes come out as numbers or other symbols.
Anyway, good luck with it! :-) [deploys another Vila icon]
I had a blogger ages ago.. probably still do. I started it largely to test it when tom was writing his own weblog software. It's ok. Much like LJ or Xanga but a bit less prissy than Xanga and if I remember rightly it looks nicer too and is a bit more user friendly. At the end of the day though, it's just another form of weblog. They are all much of a muchness!
