lixia84 - You were so, so right about Painting Mona Lisa by Jeanne Kalogridis. OMG I think that's the biggest Mary-Sue I've ever read in professional mainstream fiction o_O ( Read more... )

Heh. I think the worst part is Kalogridis' trying to deny that Leonardo was gay. Uh. Yes, because that would totally happen like that! ZOMG SO SPESHUL DAUGHTER!

And you noticed the Giulio thing as well! Ugh. Speaking as someone with a historical crush on Giuliano and Giulio, I was pissed that she basically cut Giulio out entirely to make her Mary Sue more plausible. She could have worked in a whole other angle on her character if she'd kept him.

I bought the book, to my shame, and it's sitting on my bookshelf at home gathering dust. Gah. I would give it away free, it offends me so much! LOL

...also, weren't there the Chinese ficcers slashing ZL and Zhao Yun? Granted Zhao Yun was more Takeshi-like and ZL was older, but still! Zhao Yun/ZL for great justice :P

I was getting a headache trying to work out if Leonardo was gay or not, because he contradicts himself so many times >.< Obviously he is just gay for Giuliano! And that is unreciprocated so... he isn't gay at all! Urgh what.

I don't understand the lack of Giulio at all. The best bit for me was the Pazzi conspiracy and Lorenzo being so demented with his desire to save his brother. It kind of went downhill after that. I was hoping Lisa would die of the plague but no such luck!

Hey, you could always re-enact the Bonfire of the Vanities with your copy XD

Yes, there were those ZL/Zhao Yun ficcers! I can really see the attraction, but that would make ZL a complete slut...

*sigh* Seriously, it's such a dramatic story already, I wonder why authors just don't stick to the facts instead of creating their super special Mary Sues to stick into the story :(

Speaking of which, my mum is with me at the moment, and it's funny trying to see her wrap her head around who's who! "So this is Giulio, who was Clement VII, who was Giuliano's illegitimate son, who was Lorenzo's brother." "What?" LOL! And she doesn't quite understand Filippo Lippi, Botticelli and Filippino Lippi but she tries to.

ZL wasn't a complete slut? :O

Personally I'm waiting for the book where it's revealed that Savanorola was a woman, in fact she was the rejected daughter of Alexander VI!!!!!111!!1

Hope your mum is having a fab time! I always remember my gran coming to Athens with me, and I was rambling on about the Parthenon when we climbing the Acropolis and she was "It's just a big pile of rocks to me, love" - LMAO so awesome.

Gotta be honest, Fra Lippo Lippi and Filippino Lippi always trip me up. Name your kids something different, Renaissance dudes!

ZL-Takeshi is clearly a big slut *thumbs up*
