Things That Made Me Happy Last Week, Week Ninety-Four

  • Boxing Day was pretty damn cool. Even though a bunch of people didn't show up (and I forgot to invite some people--my head's been in about a hundred different places lately, so whoops) I did get to see dorians_pirate for the first time in some years and lo, there was much carousing (okay, mostly on my part) and dishing about old friends and Ye Olden Days. Plus astute_reason gave me Jew-Jitsu: The Hebrew Fists of Fury, so you had all better watch out, lest I get angry.
  • During Boxing Day Corinne called me up and asked me to go to her house yesterday for a Hanukah dinner she was having with family & friends. I always like gatherings at her house--as I said when I lived there for five days to write my thesis, it feels like the most coherent place in the universe, and since she met her wife a couple years ago there's been a delightfully warm air about the place.
  • I've come to conceive of my actions more and more consciously in terms of virtue ethics over the last couple years--working to satisfy my conscience that I'm doing as much as I can to be a good son, a good friend, a good brother, a good employee, a good man, etc. (I don't know how much it shows, but I'm not really concerned with that.) With all of the concern people have shown for me lately, from the people with whom I'm in near-constant contact to those I see a few times a year if I'm lucky...I must be doing something right. And that makes me happy.
