All through the blooming heather

With herecirm away working with her shires today, Iris and I had to go out without our expedition photographer today. This was the first time we have been off the yard without Sari on foot ( although last time Iris was in such a hurry that the effect was quite similar ) and it was the first time we actually went beyond simply walking to the end of the road ( Read more... )

Sounds wonderful!

I guess you need to remember, "Duck!" on a taller horse. BTDT...

You have to remember to duck a whole lot further too.

LOL at the unplanned tree inspection.

I didn't canter on open unfenced ground with Charm for the first six months I had her. Out of pure cowardice - it took me that long to get my nerve back... But we got there eventually, and when we did finally start cantering along the hilltop, it was a lovely slow hand canter, not a hand to the reins or a leg to the sides. Heaven.

I miss that now we're no longer doing any fast work.

It was a few months before I tried cantering Iris because she was so unbalanced through her transitions and it bothered her. Luckily I got it better before the Martin clinic at the end of last month because he had all 12 of us cantering around the indoor arena that the clinic was in.

That taught me I could trust her, but being out on new trails is stressful enough for her- I don't want to overload her by asking more than she can give.
