I loaded a pony!

We have had an absolutely adorable arab mare staying at our yard for the last few weeks because she needed to be on box rest for severe mud fever and she had been living out somewhere with no stables. She was moving on to a new yard this week, getting a lift with one of the other liveries on our yard in her trailer. Unfortunately, she wouldn't go ( Read more... )

Thank you. It was a big deal for me and I'm glad patience and consistency worked out as I expected. I think part of what helped was that I knew that they would work, given time. Her owner is really pleased, which is nice.

I do like aussie waterproofs- long oilskins and the oilskin hats really work for me ( except my old drizabone hat which mysterious shrank to about half the size of my head ) cos I can use them all year round and they're long enough to ride in.

Also they apparently work for little bless arabs.

Good for you doing that! Well done! You are entierly right, red chestnut arab mares do NOT take to bullying. I had them my entire teenage life because I was a loony and I took on all the "problem" horses. I loved their attitudes, but loading one certainly does take a calm approach.

I have to say that I've only met a few chestnut arab mares but the ones I have just seem to be among the sweetest horses you might hope to meet. Clever and maybe a trifle opinionated, but just so lovely.

I appreciate that this sample may not be representative...

good for you! people need to learn that bullying doesn't work. Ozzy does the same sort of "O, a trailer? No thanks." no fear, just lack of interest.

I'm always amazed that people think it will- and that they are surprised if after bullying a horse into a trailer one time it's worse to load the next.

Great progress. That must have really made you feel good about the skills you've been working on.

It's nice to see that with the work we've been doing I can get a good result with a horse I've only met to say hello to once or twice.
