The problem, however, is that body issues are (mostly) treated as one-liners and then casted off to the side in this series.

The only one that's been recurring is Rachel's insecurity about not being as pretty as Quinn, and I think the only reason they kept that was to help perpetuate the Quinn/Finn/Rachel love triangle.

True. Sorry, I'm not reading things very well today.

frequently painting her as some sort of ugly duckling (when Lea is clearly not) is patronizing to the viewer.

I disagree. I think it makes sense in this scenario that Rachel feels insecure next to Quinn. Lea is clearly gorgeous, but Rachel is frequently bullied and at the bottom of the social pecking order. She's young and insecure. Quinn is everything she wants to be and is the typical blonde beauty. Although it's admirable, I tend to find it odd how healthy most of the girl's body image tends to be (except when it's srs business).

That's just my take on it anyway.

Like everything on this show I just wish there was some consistency.

I love that Lauren and Mercedes are comfortable in their appearance.

However in my experience most teenage girls (and possibly boys) go through body image issues pretty frequently. So the fact the everyone is ok with their appearance, until their randomly not for a line or an episode is frustrating.

Although it would be interesting if they explored serious issues such as anorexia with Sam. I would be happy if they just explored it on a less severe level consistently with one or more of them.

I'm going to be slightly OT but I've seen a lot of people complaining that Lauren doesn't have body image issues and thinks of herself as hot. I'm baffled by this. She's confident, strong and doesn't fall for Puck right away (which at this point, makes her an exception on Glee, all other female characters and Kurt are falling over their feet in order to get a guy). It's a bad thing she's a great role model?
