After all of the research (youtube has some wonderfully instructive videos on priming and starting an IV) I didn't write much about what I learned. It ended up sounding too technical. I learned a lot, though!
I will try to post the rest before my self-imposed deadline of September 18th. I hope you will enjoy it.

I can hear your Bobby in the actor's voice. And I'm desperate to know where Sam is.

'...for a second Dean sees his father in the man leaning over him.'
Oh, Dean. Oh, Bobby.
'“Sam!” Dean hears himself say, panicked. It’s his knee-jerk reaction to everything, the word that’s always on the tip of his tongue and has been since he was four years old and “Mom” wasn’t an option anymore. “Sam…” he repeats only softer, with less hope. He’s begging.'
This chapter is so beautifully balanced between his thoughts rambling all over the place and then coming right back to the specifics that matter most...
'Don’t even try to tell me you washed after you pissed, ‘cause I know you didn’t.”'
LOL!
You segue really well into the flashback from the IV port, dude. And I love how darn capable Bobby is. In a story I recently wrote I fanwanked that he's a combat medic and this reminded me of all the online research I did about butterfly needles and emergency blood transfusions! Actually I also fanwank that he's a dentist by profession - got to be the only explanation for the boys' perfect teeth... ;-)

I found myself wincing in sympathy at a lot of this, and of course growing ever more curious about Sam. hmm.
