How Fandom Takes Over Your Thought Process

Fandom can really either be the best or worst thing ever, depending on, of course, the nature of the fandom itself. Once you’ve arrived at the point of being a fan of something, its funny how easily it integrates itself into the every day.

(This, of course, depends on how much you like whatever it is you’re a fan of- for instance, I was a devoted ( Read more... )

I can never watch an episode of Breaking Bad without wishing that could I tell Jesse Pinkman that his life has more value than whatever Walter White deems it to be.

most relevant nugget i have ever read

i can't even describe how badly i want certain fictional characters and even places and worlds to be real. also i say "i love ___" all the time in regards to fandom, and it's amazing how i really mean it every time. i wish that i cared about aspects of real life as much as i care about certain fandoms.

Have you heard of my new band, the Relevant Nuggets?

But it is such a weird thing- Can't be fucked to make IRL friends in California, madly in love with fictional men and women.

This isn't a modern thing, I know that, but its definitely changed young culture as we know it.

and I'm glad you liked that part, because thats seriously how I feel. I'm not in love with Jesse, cute as he is, but I do feel very protective of him and want to rescue him from the mess he and Walt created.

I can never watch an episode of Torchwood without wishing I could love someone, truly and deeply, with as much bravery as Ianto Jones.

THISSSSS. FOREVER AND EVER.

And the Torchwood novels are pretty good, if I do say so myself. Entertaining, at least.

Would my potential future boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse have to understand and accept my deep and abiding love for gay alien hunting dramas?

I have sort of an inverse problem from this. The world knows all too well the sort of man who really really likes Star Trek. That ISN'T the sort of man I want to go out with.
Anyway, he would probably think I'm uncool because I'm more interested in the characters than in the ships. Boy Star Trek fans can talk about ships (and I do mean STARships) until my eyes glaze over.

Hyper-mega- fandom has never really been very attractive to me, really. I understand why people do it and what their fandoms mean to them, but when real life (and other interests) stop becoming a priority, its a problem. Not that you can tell I think this from this post lol

I really just mean I'd prefer to be with someone who understood why I liked something without the potential of ridicule. Maybe a little constructive criticism.
