I am not trying to push you into keeping the dog, but as a thought could you not take the dog to school with you? I don't know the etiquette of that, but the dog might enjoy being around people and that way you would be forced to get some exercise everyday.

That being said J just walk slowly around the playground throwing the ball for the dogs, so that is not a lot of exercise for himself.

But I totally understand wanting to travel and that being difficult with dogs. We luckily have my parents who love our dogs and will take them almost at the drop of a hat.

likely she can't do this as some of the kids may have allergies or dog fear issues

i have found for me a puppy while being single is a huge lifestyle change, I have no other "parent" to help
cats are much easier

I face the "what to do with Ruby" issue often from friends BBQ's (this is getting better as she gets older) to indoor events - lordy WHAT am I going to do with her for Kingdom Bardic, BBT and Investiture???????

Awww... but you're doing the right thing. If you don't have the time to properly housebreak and train him, it's better that he goes back. :(

We were in exactly your predicament. Except we didn't get the dog. The cat can stay home alone for the weekend, and we have lots of pals that will drop in and check on a cat (less commitment), but with the dog, we didn't have time to train him, nor a regular schedule for walks and lovin', so my beloved dog will either wait or just not happen. I still love dogs, but cats suit our lifestyle more.

On the plus side, if you keep him, you'll be more inclined to take road trips instead of flying. Road trips are fun! Plus the extreme loyalty and neediness will never let you get lonely.
