I got my first really nasty cut yesterday while chopping some peppers :( I took off about 25% of my fingernail and a good bit of the nail bed underneath. Because I couldn't remember when I'd last had a tetanus shot, and because I didn't really know how to bandage this, I made M take me to the ER to get it fixed up. Ouch! That sounds painful. I hope it heals quickly.

Thanks - it's healing surprisingly well. I'm down to just a little bit of white fluff at then end of the finger. Down with marshmallows!!

I had to get a tetanus shot when the club lock thing for my car's brakes attacked my hand. Mini-tetanus is nasty, but it does go away before too too long. A bit of massaging and/or a heat pack can help. Feel better soon!

The heat pack was a good idea - the doctor told me to use ice, but heat sounded nicer, and I think it really helped that viscous stuff disperse.

Oh man! That's so my biggest fear while cooking.

I'm glad you decided to post about this after you got back from the ER, that's a way better time to hear about it. Also, I'm glad you were safe after the fact and I wish you a speedy recovery.

They always say to keep your fingers tucked under when you're cutting. It doesn't feel quite right, but it certainly keeps the digets out of the way.
