Headshots!

Hey guys,

I desperately need new headshots. While fabulous, the ones that Peggy took a few years ago are starting to show age, and everytime I send them out to agents I get asked "so how old are these ( Read more... )

Not to be all preachy and annoying and all "i know this and i know that"... but to be totally honest, I feel like lately, every time I look at headshots of my friends that were taken by another friend, they are awful. Obviously, there is an exception to every rule, and you being gorgeous could very potentially be that exception. Having said that, I feel that anybody not actually *trained* in the art of headshot photography has no idea what a good headshot entails. You could find a beautiful photographer who takes a crap ass headshot. If I were you, I would do some research... more specifically in the L.A. area, and find a noted headshot photographer. One that is waaaaaay too expensive for you. Because odds are is that they will have an apprentice or know of another photographer who has an apprentice that charges for basically film, printing, and a tiny sitting fee. Look for one that is trained or is *training* in makeup as well. Hair is not as necessary, but make-up really is, cuz your make-up will be done *nothing* like you would for ( ... )

Thank you, Linds... And I think you're right, I'm just poor and had good results with Peggy (she took my old ones), and so I guess I was hoping that some starving photography student may want to build their portfolio and use me! Hehe... If all else fails though I'm gonna have to spend a pretty penny, I suppose. Who'd you use?

I used an AMAZING photographer/make-up artist named Shirin Tinati. She was an actress, then a casting director, and then sort of fell into photography. She charges a high but *fair* amount, and she doesn't do it by rolls. A lot of photographers will charge you however much for 3 rolls, or however much for 4. But she does it by time. She gives you from 8am till 1pm if you book a half day, or till 4 pm if you book a full day. It's nice this way, because if you go like ready to work, all nerves aside, you can get in so much. I booked a half day, but her 2nd client cancelled, so she had me there from 8 to 4 and did like 8 rolls. She uses all natural light, and creates all her own backdrops (aside from the outdoor ones of course). You're probably why I'm telling you all this if she's located it NYC. But, last I talked to her, she was working both out of L.A. and NYC. Her fiance (they might be married by now... not sure) lives in L.A. so as of last March, she was slowly moving her practice out to L.A. Let me know if you're interested, and I ( ... )

Hey Krissy,

I totally just went thru this like 2 months ago, and I ended up waiting till I needed them way too soon to do anything and had Patrick take them. They came out ok, but the point is here is what I learned and would have done had I not procrastinated; check out Craig's List and see if there are any postings for headshot specials, alot of them even give starving artist discounts. If not, post one yourself and see who responds. Alot of photography students will do it probably for gas money or a little more, just to give them some experience. Anyway, its kinda late and I hope this makes sense. Lindsay is way more experienced with stuff liek this, so take her advice, but I hope this helps too!

A friend of my just started his own acting company and he just got some head shots done. I'll ask him and see if he recommends anyone. Take care!
