Thank you - it definitely sucked.

I'm just trying to continuously remind myself that he's better off.

I agree - I wouldn't trade the time I had with him.

Just give your own kitties some squeezes for me :)

Thank you - I'm feeling extremely guilty and it helps to know that you think I made the right decision.

I'm sorry you had to go through that yourself - it IS an awful experience.

I'm so sorry... I worked at a vet hospital for almost 3 years & we did a lot of euthanasias. It never got easier for me; as soon as the owners started to tear up, I couldn't breathe.

I've had to put down 1 pet & have lost a couple of others to pretty horrible circumstances. Euthanasia is never an easy thing... My heart is with you.

Also I definitely think you made the right choice. It's so hard to see people spend thousands of dollars on the slim hope that their pet might live -- & it wouldn't necessarily be a happy life at that. It's somewhat rare that a pet comes out of that severe an operation & goes back to normal; usually it means a lifetime of meds & restricted diet.

Better this than a miserable life, I think, & the vets I worked with felt the same way. <3

Thats heartening to hear! I've spent much of the time since Saturday feeling horribly guilty.

Its about quality of life - and Max was miserable.

Don't feel guilty -- feel bad, because it's a difficult decision & you can't possibly feel good about it, but don't feel guilty. It's exactly what you said: It's about the quality of life. He had, what, 5 great years with you? That's a lot more than many poor kitties out there. Be happy for that. :)

& don't worry about the staff -- if they have any hearts, as people who work in that field should, then they understand 100%. I know for a fact that a couple of the vets I worked with bawled their eyes out when they had to put down their own pets.

You know i'm not good at this stuff. browneyedgirl33 March 31 2009, 05:58:11 UTC
So I'll just say that I went through something similar with Jake - and it was by far, as you said, the hardest decision I've ever had to make.

It's been almost a year now, and it still hurts - but it is easier now.

Just know that you did the right thing.

I love you Princess - and I miss you.

I miss you too - and I know that you are having surgery soon (next week).

Good luck! Let me know when you are comfortable having visitors because I'd like to come and see you.

I'm sorry about Jake, I can definitely say that I know how hard that must have been...
