Sometimes It Goes the Other Way

There were no flies on Lureen Newsome, and she had never heard of the word no.  Her daddy let it ride, sly cuss, figuring the new would wear off Jack Twist soon enough and his baby girl would pick out a stud with better breeding to sire his grandkids.  Too canny to talk her cowboy down, L.D. played it broad, called Jack ‘Rodeo’ like naming a pet, ( Read more... )

Oh, no, you didn't !! Although I always wished for the roles to reverse.... I can only immagine how much Ennis hurt while gathering his small belongings, decided to leave for Jack's sake !

huh! What's Jack playin' at? Ennis's line of thinking for why Jack's doing what he's doing makes a semblance of sense, but how does Jack think what he's doing is going to help his relationship with Ennis?... Is it just the money?

Really awesome writing! Loved how you referred to their love making:

couldn’t make himself wash off the sweet stink of their recent hi-jinks

As always, I am in awe at your use of a turn of phrase. This ***He was the belt buckle she’d won, but it appeared he needed a sight more polish*** and this ***some folks figured they had an iron cure for that kind of monkey business*** An iron cure indeed....

OK if I hated this? If I hated that Jack's getting used, but even more so, that he knows it? That Ennis is feeling "less than" because he can't give Jack the sweet life he deserves, out from the shadows, where "decent" folks can see? That Ennis couldn't bear to wash the love stink off his body, but he *could* bear to stuff his belongings into a pillow case and take off without a word?

God. This story is settin' me back on my heels. I can't wait for more, and I actually squeeeee when I see a new part go up. Then I sit here in anticipatory dread, as I open up each chapter and read what's happening.

Ya got me hooked, and hooked good, so pardon me while I flop like a dying fish on the end of your line, gal. You got me good.

Oh my, I feel so bad for these two. Things are not looking very good. I'm very anxious to read the next chapter.
