Room 218, Almost Certainly Thursday (Right? Right.) Evening

Mar 15, 2012 19:33

Oh no.

Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.

Karla was standing in the middle of her dorm room, surrounded by piles of...of...of stuff. It was probably for the best that Gabrielle was off in Greece again (though if she knew what was happening to her roommate, she'd rethink that), otherwise she might have gotten lost in the heaping jumbles of books, clothing, ( Read more... )

"About a quarter, maybe?" Karla said. She picked it up and set it down on air, broth dripping down the side and pooling at the base. "Mostly salvageable. Except my pillow."

Goodbye, poor pillow. Karla hardly knew thee. Or something.

"I think sometimes Fandom has a little too much fun with the slapstick humor. Any luck on finding those towels? Or sheets?"

"No... and no," Warren sighed. "But I have a feeling I'd be having a hard time of it even if Fandom wasn't being weird today."

The room was a disaster area, after all.

"... Here."

Yes. Yes, that was Warren pulling off his shirt so that he could start sopping the soup from the bed. It wasn't as though he didn't have more of those, anyhow. And it had only cost, what, a grand? Big deal.

WARREN WAS SPECIAL NEEDS, WHEN IT CAME TO CLOTHING.

And for as much as he liked the fare that he got from Kaeleer, for slightly more modern fashions, a guy had to pay a little more for people from his own world to shut up, sew according to the specifications, and not ask any questions!

"Because you lost my bear," Warren pointed out, evenly, as he shrugged and started doing his buttons up again. "I could run back to my room and see if my sheets have run away, yet?"

"Right, right, my bad," Warren replied, wrinkling his nose even as he smiled. "Can you handle bear-sitting while I make the run up, then?"

See, Karla? Warren was trusting that you could handle joint custody in a mature way that was mindful of the needs of the vulnerable bear that he was placing in your open arms.

"You just want a turn at hugging him," he accused with a laugh. "I can't blame you, I guess. He gives pretty good hugs."

Huffing bear was... odd. But hey, who was Warren to judge? His only complaint would be that he was pretty rife with that cornchip smell and his own personal psychic scent, too. Buddy was not the only one who held that proud distinction!

"... I'll be right back, then."

Buddy, for his part, looked pretty pleased about the attention he was getting, too.

Karla wasn't smelling Buddy because he smelled like cornchips (even though he did). And she'd be happy to give Warren a hug, too, but the bear smelled like, well, childhood. Old hopes and fears and wishes and tears and a myriad of other things she could not place.

Not that she could get what any of those things were; they were far too old for her to get anything more than vague impressions. But it was a key to a very tiny door to that part of his life she would never be able to share.

"Go on," she shooed, inhaling Buddy again. "We'll keep ourselves entertained."

And in response to that, Warren just grinned, shook his head, and turned back for the door.

"I'll let you two have some quality time, then. Be back soon."

And out he went.

Karla settled back on the bed, squeezing Buddy tightly. He was a soft, cuddlesome bear, an excellent stuffed animal even if he hadn't been infused by Warren's psychic scent. Moved by whimsy, she plucked her Arcerian kitty stuffed animal up from the mound of stuffed critters she'd managed to collect here in Fandom (thank you, Dinah!) and introduced her to Buddy.

What? It only made sense to have her beloved childhood animal make friends with his, okay?

"You two need to get along," she said. "Warren and Buddy will be coming home with us one day. You'll have to work together to watch over us both."

It took Warren a few minutes longer than anticipated, since the spare sheets and pillows were sitting in the bottom of the shower that was attached to Warren and Bobby's room, but eventually he did return carrying all of the above.

... And he was going to just stand quietly in the doorway and smirk as he watched their respective stuffed animals making friends. As you do.
