Room 218, Sunday Afternoon

Jul 17, 2011 13:36

Just a few months ago, Karla would have fired off a text to a bunch of people, saying something useful like Hobart's killing all the B Widows. Going to stop him. Hugs & kisses, K and run off into the wilds of Glacia with no plan but a burning desire to stop the bastard in his tracks. But that was a few months ago--she'd learned a few lessons since ( Read more... )

Raven abandoned her own thoughts and the library (her shift was almost over anyway) when she got Karla's message and hurried to the second floor of the dorms.

"Karla, what is going on?" she said anxiously.

"I've got to go home," Karla said, standing up to give Raven a hug as well. "Hobart's playing games again. He's murdering Black Widows."

Raven wrapped her arms tightly around Karla, sending her a gentle pulse of comfort. "Not alone," she said.

That wasn't a question.

"I didn't think for a minute I'd be able to get away with that," Karla promised.

Jack got Karla's message, sighed, and punched in her digits to return the call.

"What is it this time?" he asked as soon as she picked up.

He was joking. Well, he was doing that thing where he sounded like he was joking but he was actually at least half serious. "And hello."

"Kiss kiss, Jack," Karla said, answering her phone. "Don't worry. I'm not looking for reinforcements on this one."

Not yet, anyway.

"Well, but now you have me curious," Jack said. "What's bad enough that you need to let people know you're leaving, but not so bad you'd at least take Warren and Raven along?"

"Well, I doubt I'll be able to leave the island without Raven and Warren," Karla said, a little ruefully. "And Emma's demanding a Ring or she'll sit on me."

That brief burst of levity past, Karla explained, "Hobart's declared war on and entire caste. Black Widows who practice their caste-Craft without first declaring loyalty to Hobart and his Queen are under penalty of death."

So...yeah. Not going wasn't even an option anymore.

*riiiiiiiing*

Yeah, you are so lucky that wasn't a text message, Karla.

See? She was learning!

"I'm still in Fandom and not running like an idiot anywhere," Karla said immediately upon answering.

It was best to get these things out of the way.

"Kiss kiss."

"Yeah, hug hug," Dinah countered, pacing the loft. "Tell me you're not going by yourself, or if you are, that you're meeting up with Morton and other back-up. Or you're gonna wait 'til I get there to go with you."

"Raven and Warren are going with me," Karla recited obediently. "And the portal that takes us off the island is going to directly to the Hall, where Morton is waiting. And we won't be leaving until we come up with a plan we can all agree on."

A plan they all agreed was good, specifically. After all, they'd all agreed on the plan of bringing Rook with them to confront Raven--agreed it was a BAD PLAN.

"There's too much at stake to go at this half-cocked," she continued, her voice growing solemn. "Too many lives at stake."

Unfortunately, Bobby had already taken off on an emergency of his own, so he couldn't stop by for a more detailed explanation.

But that he was at a place regarding his feelings towards Karla where he felt worried enough to try and get one through text was at least a step in the right direction, right?

whats going on?

Not calling the cavalry, Karla shot back quickly. She wanted Bobby to know that she wasn't trying to summon everyone together to throw themselves in danger on her behalf.

Just letting people i'm going to be gone for awhile. Everyone gets mad when i send a text halfway thru.

good to know Bobby started to type, and then when the second text came through, added: know what thats like. been yelled at for it a time or two myself. but sometimes theres just no time!

I know rite? At least i'm texting at all!

She bit her lip, hesitating whether to give him more details, like that Warren was going home with her. They had just started talking. Letting him know that Warren was going to be in danger with her again might ruin everything.

Of course, so might letting him find out from other people.

Bad things happening back home. Heading back to take care of it. Hall first to come up w/a plan that's not stupid or dangerous.
