Room 218, Thursday Evening

Nov 18, 2010 17:10

Karla, to put it lightly, was in a miserable mood when she stormed into her room, all swirling black Widow's Weeds and residual bad temper. She was tired, bitchy, hungry, and pissed off at every vampire ever who thought it was all right to kidnap and feed off her friends in some kind of obscure power-play ( Read more... )

Ender didn't have any specific powers that would make it easy for him to determine whether Karla was there; he just knew Karla, and lived on the same floor, and, well, that was all you really needed to know, wasn't it?

It might have been ... a while, before he finally made his way over and knocked on the door, but in his defense, he'd had a few pros and cons to weigh, and a pool party to attend.

[[ I've been thinking about how I should do a thread all week, and now it's late and I'm about to pass out. Bless me with SP? ]]

"What?!" Came Karla's ever so inviting response to his knock. There were a few angry-sounding footsteps as Karla hopped off the bed and stomped towards the door. "Who--oh, Ender." A sort of pleased, 'I haven't seen you in forever' smile briefly crossed her face. It didn't last long, but it was something right.

"Here, come in," she said, stepping aside so he could. "I don't suppose you happened to have something to snack on, do you?"

"I think I might have a Snickers in my pocket," Ender supplied, more out of amusement than anything else, though it was muted. He stepped into the room, rummaging around in his pocket as he went. "Blow a lot of Jewel power?"

"Only a little," Karla huffed. "I'm just hungry. I stayed in the background and Healed Sookie. Left the fighting to everyone else."

Even Raven. Darkness that was a little embarrassing. On the other hand, she hadn't lost any weight, so she was calling it even.

"Can I have it," she asked, a little plaintively.

Elphaba, blessedly free of the tik-tok tot, didn't know for sure if her friend had returned from whatever had detained Karla from attending reserves yesterday. Nonetheless, she stopped by Karla's room with a half-eaten apple in one hand (and another in her pocket, just for safe-keeping). With her free hand, she knocked on Karla's door with an assertive three raps.

"Hello?" she said, hoping for a response.

Karla grumbled a little. Why had everyone decided tonight was the perfect night to come in and bother Karla.

"There is a food toll!" she yelled through the door. "You can only come in if you have something I can eat."

Ha! Take that!

"I have a spare apple," Elphaba said, before taking a bite of her own. "Is that toll enough?"

She couldn't help but smile a bit. Planning helped all sorts of issues. She had thought that if Karla had had to use her magic, she might have been a bit malnourished.

The grumbling got louder, but the door opened in front of Elphaba, opening wide enough to invite her in.

"Is it a green apple?" she pouted asked from where she was sitting. "I like those the best."

On the plus side, she didn't look any thinner. Just kind of aggravated.

Just like the noise of crying robobabies, the one made by a tiny blonde witch wasn't easy to ignore. And considering said witch had been missing lately, all the noise did was attract Cloud. He wasn't taking risks though, as evidenced by the medium sized pizza box he was bringing. He had eaten a few slices, and sincerely hoped that didn't end up annoying Karla more, but as far as he was concerned, food was the easiest way to avoid a confrontation.

"I bring peace offerings", called Cloud from outside the door. If he could slide the pizza under the door without making a mess, he would have.

Karla could smell pizza. Good enough for her. "You can come in," Karla hollered. "As long as you bring the pizza with you. And I get a slice or two without getting fussed at!"

Cloud rolled his eyes while the door was still closed. There was a seriously angry blonde at the other side. Maybe he could leave the pizza and leave...but it was too late already.

"So be it", said as he opened the door. "You can have as much as you want, by the way." He didn't need all the food, after all. "Eat to your heart's content", added as he placed the box carefully on the bed.

Karla reached for a slice with each hand, and was halfway through her first slice even as she was bringing back the second. "Mmm. This is good," she mumbled between one bite and the next. "Thank you. Needed this."

Warren had spent a few more days worrying about Karla, you bet. And naturally, the thing to do when you were worried about somebody was to knock on their door every night until they came back, until you knew for a fact that they were either in need of rescue, or home safely, right?

Warren's knock did come a bit tentatively, of course. The possibility that there would be no answer was kind of freaking him out, in that deep-down place that he wouldn't let anyone see, unless they were paying particular attention to the way his feathers were prickling closest to his shoulders.

"This had better be important," Karla snapped through the door. "I am--" The door opened and a very disgruntled Karla stood there. The disgruntlement didn't last longer than it took for Karla to realize who was standing there. And then she was wrapping her arms around Warren and clinging to him tightly. "Hi," she breathed. "I missed you."

Arms and wings folded around Karla, and Warren let himself start breathing again. Never letting go. He meant it, this time. He'd glue himself to her the way he'd glued himself to the wall that one time, and that would be that.

"Bad week?"

Shot in the dark.

"I don't know if you heard anything after I left a message," Karla said, resting her head on his chest and unknowingly agreeing with his determination to never let go again. "But it turns out that Sookie was kidnapped by werewolves as part of some sick game of vampire politics."

She shook her head a little. "They fed on her nearly to death. Twice. Raven and I Healed her but...Darkness, I can't imagine what she must have gone through."
