SaDiablo Hall, Dhemlan Kaeleer, Early Sunday Afternoon (Fandom Time)

Sep 12, 2010 04:06

This wasn't a family meeting. It was a war council. Karla had never seen Saetan look quite so grave and even Lucivar had left behind a lot of his customary bluster. They were ensconced in the study, waiting for Morton to arrive. He was past due, though no one was mentioning that.

Though she could see they were all thinking it, especially when they looked at her. )

The talk was going around in circles and Lucivar didn't really have the patience for it. He needed to do something, rather than just waiting for Morton to arrive, going over all of the different reasons the young Warlord might be late.

Most of the reasons he could imagine had him pushing against the killing edge.

In an effort to keep his temper leashed, he caught the eye of the young male that had accompanied Karla to Dhemlan. If he was supposed to trust this male with her, he'd better get to know him, right? He cocked his head towards the door and raised an eyebrow.

It was like a request, really!

For one thing, it would really mess up their plans to have Lucivar stalk into the study and lock Karla in her room for the rest of her natural life.

"She did, hmm?" Lucivar raised an eyebrow. "She planning on offering you a contract, then?"

They could be Ring-buddies! Lucivar had demanded his!

"I'm not certain," Ben said. "I have certain obligations at home that need most of my attention and I'm not used to doing things halfway. But I count Karla as one of my closest friends."

Ring-buddies, Ben! Think of how much fun that would be!

Lucivar nodded. "Fair enough."

And that was that. Lucivar wasn't one for wasting words when he didn't have to.

"You mentioned powers that aren't Craft?" he asked instead. And chose to ask, rather than simply attacking to see for himself.

Lucivar was having a diplomatic day.

"We call it the Force," Ben replied, used to explaining this after years of welcome picnics. "It's what binds the galaxy together."

"Ah, the Darkness," Lucivar said with a nod. "Interesting that your people call it by another name."

"We have other associations for darkness," Ben said with a slightly pinched look to his face.

Lucivar honestly couldn't imagine equating the Darkness with anything but what it was, but shrugged and let go of the point. Philosophy was for the scholars at the Keep. "But this 'Force' of yours gives you Craft? Or, something you call by a different name?"

"Being Force-sensitive, yes," Ben said. "It's similiar to what Karla can do--though, sadly, without the flying. We use ships for that instead."

"Like...boats?" Lucivar asked, trying to see how the two were connected.

"In space," Ben said, nodding.

"You fly through the stars in boats?" Lucivar asked, half incredulous and half wondrous.

"...Doesn't it get cold?"

Ben stared at him blankly for a second before it dawned on him. "No," he said with a little smile. "We're completely enclosed. There's no air in space so our heads would explode," or something like that, "if we didn't have a top to our ships. They look more like submarines."

There! That should clear it right up!

"Submarines," Lucivar repeated blankly.

"How are these ships supposed to help you fight off angry males again?"

"I could land a ship on them and squish them?" Ben offered, then grinned. "The ship is only an accessory. The power's within, and not as advertised as your Jewels are."

"If Karla's not in the way, I say go for it," Lucivar said with a shrug.

What? It seemed awfully expedient.

Lucivar eyed him a bit for that 'accessory' comment. "The Jewels serve as a reservoir for the power our bodies can't handle," he said idly. And with no more warning than that, called in a knife and tossed it at Ben.

Just checking!
