Other than a brief trip to the common room last night and periodic trips to the bathroom, Karla had pretty much slept through the entire weekend. She'd needed it; not only was she physically exhausted, she had been thoroughly wiped on a mental and emotional level, too. After his conversation with Ender last week, Ben had meaning to stop in and check on Karla, and now seemed as good a time as any.

So there he was, knocking on the door. "Karla?"

It was Ben. Karla hesitated before answering She still wasn't entirely sure where they stood over the whole Ender thing, and another long argument would probably just make her cry.

But she couldn't pretend she wasn't here and doing so would be tantamount to backing down, which Karla was almost physically incapable of doing.

"Come in," she called, finally. Se stayed where she was, though. Ben would just have to deal with her in her nightgown. It still showed less skin than what some people wore anyway.

Ben...hadn't noticed what time it was, no. Ben needed to sleep more.

"I can come back tomorrow," he said, blushing to his hairline. "I didn't mean to wake you."

Well, he did, but not just because he was poor at telling time.

"I slept all weekend," Karla replied dryly, setting aside her book. "Literally. It just seemed easier to get back into my pj's after my shower this evening." She drew up her knees to make room for him at the end of her bed. "What's up?" she asked, more casually than she felt. "On your way to the roof?"
