The Estate, Sidra, Balmia (Saturday Morning, Fandom time)

Feb 16, 2014 10:26

It was a nice, lazy day in Balmia. Another day, another beautiful warm and--wait for it--balmy day. A flower-perfumed breeze blew through the palm trees, rustling the brightly-colored feathers of the tropical birds and sending a few of the very ripe citrus fruits falling to the ground, where they'd no doubt be gobbled up by any one of the exotic ( Read more... )

You know, Collin really didn't mind babysitting all that much? Being the youngest growing up meant that he'd managed to dodge that particular responsibility, and besides, there was something hilarious about being able to rub it in Kayla's face that he was the oldest and so he was in charge.

Take that, big sister.

But he was pretty sure his parents would be pretty choked if he spent a whole weekend on the island without at least saying hi and telling them that they were missing out on quality time with their beloved munchkins and all, so he was totally calling to pester, now.

Ring ring, Mom!

Yeah, so, for some reason, Karla didn't have her future son's number in her phone. Go figure. So when her phone started ringing with an unknown number, she looked at it blankly for a moment before answering.

"Hello?" she said, stifling a yawn.

"Oh, good to know you're getting some sleep," Collin grumbled before clearing his throat and actually straightening again. "Hey, Mom. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to get babysitting money or something for this."

Hi, Karla! You had several kids you were missing out on at the moment!

"...Mom?" Karla asked, blinking sleepily. Then--"Mom! Nommy? Is that you? You're on the island? What--whoa!"

The downside of bolting upwards in a hammock is that it was a rather unstable contraption. It set to wildly swinging and Karla dropped the phone to keep from being pitched right out of it.

Don't listen, Nommy. You weren't supposed to know those words.

"--bloody everlasting...hello? Nommy? You still there?"

Sometime in the midday, Warren was getting a frantic text.

Pluma back. Now girl-shaped. Kind of scary (is it bad that I said that about my own kid???? totally love her but don't think she's very stable????????)

Warren was already in the process of packing for the trip to frigid Fandom island, at least. He got the text, gave it a look, groaned a little, and then texted back.

K & I are on our way back- Kayla and Nommy are there, too. How do you mean, not stable?

That required a bit more thinking. It was hard to put nuance into text, especially when you were typing things out hurriedly on a miniscule keyboard while the person in question was in the other room.

Jumpy. Loud noises upset her. Brimming with power. Not nec sane.

Hooboy. I'll be there as soon as I can.

This was probably the first time in Warren's life that he was thankful that he was just starting a molt. They might need some peace-offering feathers that weren't painful to surrender, here.

Raven wandered outside, wielding a black (of course) parasol against the bright sun. Azar forbid she ever get some color to her pale skin.

"You look busy," she teased.

"It's a tough life," Karla said lazily as the hammock rocked slowly back and forth. "But someone has to do it. I've stepped up and taken on that responsibility, so..." She sighed. "...Here I am."

Raven tried very hard not to giggle. "Is there anything I can do to help my Queen with these many hardships?" she said, Very Seriously.

"My hammock is no longer rocking properly," Karla said, clearly Super Distraught. "You should climb up here with me, see if we can't get it going again."

...Probably not dirty?

"Everyone knows that proper hammock rhythm is necessary for continued health."

So, Priestly has Jane this weekend. And Bishop. Who apparently is an immaculate conception with Dean.

Who'd you get?

Someone might be a tiny bit jealous that she didn't get any kids this time.

They had finally assembled all the winter gear they'd need to brave the frigid tundra that was Fandom in February. Karla had checked the weather reports and nearly cried.

Now Warren was arguing with Portalocity, wrangling over how many layovers were actually acceptable and Karla had retreated to her hammock to soak up the last few rays of warmth before they were forced into the brutal cold.

Just Kayla and Nommy, I think. TTD.

Is that tickled to death or temporary transit delay?

Dinah snickered.

Send photos of what they look like this time, when you get them, 'kay?

Thank the Darkness, silly! Karla texted back. I guess Nommy is a teen again, but Kayla's still a little girl. She's kicking him for being bigger than her.
