ice cream update
We're going to be making a bunch for the family gathering on the Fourth, so here's a list of recent experiments:
1. Strawberry Banana - Came out really well, especially for being kind of spur of the moment.
2. Vanilla Frozen Yogurt - My first frozen yogurt! It was ridiculously simple to make (vanilla yogurt,some half-and-half, sugar, and a little extra Vanilla Bean Paste.
3. Cà phê sữa đá (aka Vietnamese Coffee) - As an avid coffee drinker, I'd been wanting to make coffee ice cream for a while. This also served as an excuse to use up some sweetened condensed milk that was close to its use by date. Worked pretty well.
4. Chocolate Frozen Yogurt - This one was a little more challenging than the vanilla. I tried straining the yogurt to thicken it. That worked pretty well. infowidget didn't think it was chocolatey enough. I think it is.
5. Coconut - mostly my standard recipe, though this time the coconut flakes were slightly fried in addition to toasted (in coconut oil, of course!) This one's in the maker right now.
Coming soon may be a Vanilla Bean Paste shootout, since I discovered you can get it at Trader Joes for less than half of what it usually costs. We'll see if the quality is as good as the Nielsen-Massey.
