The Causeway, Late Monday Night/Early Monday Morning

Oct 26, 2009 15:45

Karla stared at the Causeway. She needed to simply cross it and she’d be on the mainland. And there were plenty of people there who would enjoy taking advantage of a young girl, one who appeared lost and vulnerable. She would have no problem showing them the error of their ways, no problem with claiming the debt that their other victims couldn’t ( Read more... )

Raven teleported from the dorms to the causeway, appearing a moment after Dinah's arrival in a burst of black smoke that quickly swept back into Raven's body, revealing Francine, Katchoo, and Emma with her.

"What have you done?" she cried when she saw Karla's crumbled body and Max standing over her. She flew forward to put herself between Karla and Max and to shield her friend from any further attack.

Max glanced up with a slight frown. "She must have swung by the dorms before heading this way," he muttered unhappily. Because he wasn't sure whether having a bunch of students around was going to help things.

Though, this was Fandom. It was possible.

He sighed. "I did what had to be done, unfortunately."

"You will undo it now," Raven said angrily. She wasn't sensing anything from Karla now, and that terrified her, fueling her rage. It didn't help that it was Max in front of her; that just made it easier for her anger to grow.

"Raven," Max's voice was hard. "This is not the time or place to lose control of yourself." He was a bit distracted with Karla to want to deal with an out of control empath at the moment.

Besides, he knew she could control herself if she exerted the effort to do so.

"What did you do to her?" Raven demanded. Her eyes flashed red briefly, then were normal again; she wasn't as lost as Karla had been, just panicked and afraid and fighting off the residual effect of her friend's rage and pain.

"She attacked me," Max answered. "I did what had to be done." The same thing he would have done to Raven in the same situation. He shot the empath a glare. She was taking up time he'd rather be spending trying to figure out what was wrong.

"You will answer to me if you have damaged her," Raven seethed. Why no, she wasn't transferring her own vampire!Max issues to this situation, why do you ask? "And I will ask you one more time: What. Did. You. Do?" If she knew, she'd have a better chance at bringing Karla back from wherever her mind had fled.

Max tried not to roll his eyes at Raven's tone. "We fought. When she realized she was beaten she collapsed. I don't know what did this to her, though."

"And you did...what you did to me?" Raven said. "Or something else?"

"No, not the same thing," Max shook his head. "This fight was physical, not emotional." Well, mostly.

Raven let out a relieved breath, allowing herself to relax, just a little. Physical wounds were easier to heal than emotional ones, but it didn't explain why she was picking up nothing from Karla now. Something else had to be wrong. "Thank you," she said stiffly, turning to kneel beside Karla, reaching out with her gifts to try to find out what was wrong as well as heal any physical wounds her friend might have suffered in her fight with Max.

Max just nodded.

And made a mental note to discuss this reaction with Raven in detail later.

Katchoo was way in over her head, disoriented from whatever the hell had just happened, and had no damn clue what she was doing here other than Francine had made up her mind to go, and she couldn't let her go alone, could she?

She staggered a step or two, but all she had to do was take one look and see a young girl lying unconscious, with one gigantic frikkin' hulk of a man standing nearby, and -- sorry, Max, for jumping to the wrong conclusion like Raven -- any objection she might've made was forgotten.

Welcome to Katchoo's issues, population do you really want to know?

"What," she snarled, voice low and cold and not at all unlike Darcy's, "the hell."

Max glanced over at a girl he hadn't met yet, probably one of Karla's friends, and then dismissed her, turning his attention back to the girl on the ground.

Perhaps not the best plan ever. This was, after all, Katchoo he was ignoring.

Katchoo did not, in point of fact, know Karla except for sharing a couple of classes over the past year, but that wasn't really relevant here. Facts weren't often relevant when she was getting into a rage.

"HEY! DON'T YOU FRIKKIN' TURN YOUR BACK ON ME!" Katchoo roared, and advancing on him would have been more impressive if she hadn't staggered on the next few steps. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?"

Max spun and flashed a dangerous look in Katchoo's direction. "I'm a bit busy here," he snapped.
